Medical Supplies

1. It is important to possess the right medical tools, the right medicine, and the right materials that can be used to help care for injury or prevent death. Take an inquiry of every person, asking if they have any allergies to any specific medicine and for their medical history. This is the most crucial step in setting up an operational health clinic within your shelter.

2. Make a filing system that is organized and contains all the medical records of everyone in the shelter.

3. Next verify if there are any experienced medical professionals amongst the group of survivors, and assign them to their respected areas of expertise. If there are no members with medical knowledge gather what medical books you can, then apply the information from the book.

4. Hold instructional classes for staff to provide better service and insight on medical procedures.

5. Make a list of all the medical tools, medicine, and material you will need. To get you started here are some of the basic things you will need to start:

  • Alcohol
  • Sterile gloves
  • Bandages
  • Tweezers
  • Scalpel
  • Stethoscope
  • Thermometer
  • Ibuprofen
  • Sudafed
  • Anti-histamine

6. Organize supplies and label to ensure that certain medications don’t mixed up. (Notice: The misuse of medications might lead further health problems.)

7. Setup a security system that ensure the safety of staff and most importantly the patients

Mental Health

1. During a Zombie apocalypse, one’s first thought might not be on one’s mental health, but it is critical not to neglect care of one’s mental health in a state of survival.

2. Make sure to stock items for entertainment, such as books, magazines, decks of cards, and board games.

3. If a siege occurs you will be tormented with the moans of the undead for days, and potentially weeks. Stock up on earplugs for all of the people in your bunker.

4. Coloring books are becoming very popular for therapy, consider stocking a few as well as some colored pencils.

5. Don’t forget to spruce up your bunker. Perhaps put a motivational poster on the wall to remind you not to give up and that brighter days are coming. Anything that will help improve morale.

6. Make self-care a daily priority. Daily personal reflections and meditation will be helpful in maintaining a calm composure during an outbreak. You will be better able to help others if you take care of yourself.

7. If you play a musical instrument, consider purchasing one for your bunker, but keep in mind that noise may attract Zombies.
