Provisions

Water

1. Prepare to allocate approximately one gallon of water per person per day. Keep in mind that water will not just be used for drinking. It will also be needed for cleaning (including wounds.)

2. For short term zombie sieges, plastic gallon jugs of water may be stored. These can either be purchased or filled. It is recommended that one prepares for a longer siege, given the tireless nature of the undead.

3. For longer term sieges, water will need to be collected and purified. Water may be collected from rain, a body of water, or a well. Plan and prepare the system well, survival will depend on it.

4. Once water is collected, it will need to be stored. Plastic 50-gallon drums work well for most water storage needs. Whatever containers you decide to use, be sure to mark whether the water is purified for drinking or not.

5. Your water purification system will depend on your collection method. Even if you are preparing for a short term siege, it is wise to have a backup plan. Boiling water may not be enough, stock up on charcoal filters and/or iodine/purification tablets.

Food

1. Canned food is ideal because it does not require water to prepare. Allocate about three cans per person per day.

2. Stock up on prepackaged protein/energy bars. Not only will these provide quick easy meals, but if you need to travel any distance, they are very portable.

3. Stock as much prepackaged/nonperishable food as possible. If you become a victim of a Zombie siege, you may need to go weeks eating only what you have stored.

4. MREs (meals ready to eat) are military rations. They can be purchased online and provide a very high nutrient and calorie content for their size.

5. Hunting may seem like a practical way to gather food, but unless you are experienced, it might not be worth the risk. Remember, anything you intend to consume will need to be dressed and cooked. Keep in mind that a gunshot could attract a hoard of zombies.

6. Buy a large (at least 25 lb.) bag of salt. This can be used to preserve any food you may gather, as well as season otherwise unappetizing food.

7. No matter how much you store, your stockpile is still finite. Purchase a wild edibles guide for your region and have it in your bunker. It will be invaluable if foraging becomes necessary. Gardening might seem like a good option, but zombies have a tendency to destroy gardens by trampling the plants. It wouldn't be worth the effort nor the water required for such a venture.
